Welcome to Priory Nursery!

In the Nursery we learn through our play and follow the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’ Framework. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards for learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. This framework has seven areas of learning. There are three prime areas and four specific areas of learning. Each area is broken down into various aspects

In the Nursery we consider the individual needs, interests, and stages of development of all children in our care. We use this information to plan challenging and enjoyable experiences for each child in all of the areas of learning and development.

The Nursery Team reflect on the different ways that children learn and integrate them into our practise by looking at the three characteristics of effective learning.

  • Playing and exploring – children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’
  • Active learning – children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements
  • Creating and thinking critically – children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things

Throughout the year we will use a range of topics and focus books to base our activities on. During the day the children have access to indoor and outdoor resources, no matter what the weather is. We also sit the children down for carpet time and teach phonics, shared reading, communications skills, understanding the world, literacy and maths. Nursery is your child’s first step into education at Priory, so not only do we want the children to add to their existing knowledge and learn new skills, we also want both you and your child to have lots of enjoyable experiences with us!
