About the food we serve

We provide diverse selection of hot and cold lunches – all made almost entirely from fresh ingredients. This means that pupils are packed with the right nutrients and have plenty of nourishment and energy throughout the day, helping them fully concentrate and achieve success academically and athletically.

Fresh Food you can trust

We are committed to sourcing ingredients with assured provenance from local and regional suppliers. We use:

  • All Free Range Eggs sourced from the UK
  • ‘Farm Assured’ and ‘Red Tractor’ accredited British Meat Poultry
  • Marine Stewardship Approved (MSC) certified fish from sustainable fisheries

Our kitchen has received 5 starts rating reaching the highest possible score of excellence by “Food Hygiene Rating System’.

We offer full traceability of the meals we serve. Our suppliers are audited by an external body to ensure they comply with both our own and statutory obligations.

Our menus are checked and approved by registered dietitian to ensure that our school meals meet government school food standards for healthy eating.

We are proud to announce that we have recently achieved the Bronze ‘Food for Life’ Catering Award. For more information, please click here.

Free drinking water is available to the children all day.

Special Diets

We can cater for specific dietary needs. Our catering staff are trained to cater for pupils with allergies and religious dietary needs including Halal, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, and Egg Free. Please ensure your child’s dietary needs are up-to-date by providing this information to the school office. If your child has any food allergies, please still order a lunch and we will provide them with an appropriate alternative. If you have concerns on this matter, please speak to our Catering Manager.

Great Value for money

Our two course nutritionally balance meal for £2.00 represents excellent value for money.

The Government is funding free school lunches for children in reception, year 1 and year 2 in state-funded schools in England. If you have child in this age group you could save over £400 per year. We believe that the importance of receiving nutritionally balanced lunch is so high that we decided to make it compulsory for our Reception children to have school lunches from September 2016.

Ordering System

The ordering system has also undergone a makeover at Priory School. The entire ordering process is now digital and colour-coded. Each meal is assigned a specific colour (red for hot main non-halal meal, blue for hot halal meal, green for vegetarian main meal, yellow for jacket potato and orange for sandwich option – please note sandwich options are only available for KS2 children). Information on the number of meals ordered is fed directly back to the kitchen where the appropriate amount of meals are prepared, ensuring every child gets served what they have ordered in the morning. Your child’s meal choice is identified with the corresponding coloured wristband which they wear into the dining hall, where their meal choice is served to them on a colour-coded tray.

We are also able to provide for children who have special dietary requirements. When your child orders this information, along with their allergy needs is fed directly to the kitchen where we can provide them with a bespoke meal.

We are very proud our catering department and feel that all children would benefit from having a school meal. If you do decide to provide your child with a packed lunch, please include one item of protein, some fruit and vegetables and only one sweet item. Please try to reduce the amount foods containing high quantities salt, fat and sugar such as crisps. We ask you not to provide confectionery items in your child’s packed lunch and we recommend pure fruit juice, milk or water as an accompanying drink to their meal. We believe that the importance of receiving nutritionally balanced lunch is so high that we decided to make it compulsory for our Reception children to have school lunches from September 2016.

Free school meals

Did you know, just registering your child for free school meals means that the school gets extra money? For every child registered, your school gets an extra £488. Download a copy of the form here. If you have any questions or queries, please contact Kathryn James on Kathryn.James@prioryschool.com.

We are very proud of the lunch provision at Priory School. During a recent audit by Slough Borough Council, which assessed if our school lunches meet the School Nutritional Standards, the lunches served by the kitchen were 100% compliant but that the packed lunches brought from home were only 36% compliant. We believe that the importance of receiving nutritionally balanced lunch is so high that we decided to make it compulsory for our Reception children to have school lunches from September 2016. Going forward, this means that while they are in Key Stage 1, all children who are entitled to UiFSM will receive it. Our purpose as a school is not just to develop children academically but also personally, socially and nutritionally and this drives the whole school ethos for a healthy lifestyle. The introduction of the Daily Mile in school from September 2016 works in tandem with this.
