English

The Priory staff want to provide every child the opportunity to continue to develop and improve the vast skills required for English at primary level. For this reason, like maths, we will be sending home/uploading specially designed ‘sways’ (similar to powerpoint presentations except online) for each year group every week with various tasks that we have called ‘challenges’. These challenges will continue to improve your children’s vocabulary, phonetic/spelling knowledge, reading skills, grammar knowledge and writing.

The sways are designed to last for a week but we know that during this unprecedented time the prospect of home learning can be challenging. So all that we ask is that you make these presentations work for you; take from them the aspects that you feel will best benefit your children; and if possible submit any completed work to your children’s teachers using the year group email address. Your children’s teachers are more than happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the challenges uploaded and these can also be submitted to the year group emails.

Time to get Creative!

Write a script and have it turned into a short video by professional actors!

Have your own script brought to life in just 4 easy steps…

Step 1: Write your scripted story.

Step 2: Email your scripted story to creativekidscolab@gmail.com (typed or as a photo attachment is fine, as long as we can read your script). Please note – this email address and scheme is external to the school and the professionals that receive it are not employed by or affiliated to the school. Priory School will not take any responsibility for any content sent to this email address – the parent/carer assumes all responsibility for any content sent to this address.

Step 3: A group of professional actors will film and bring your story to life! (from the comfort of their own homes of course).

Step 4: We will email you back a copy of your short film!

There is also a bonus task for any eager writers out there, but you can do as much or as little of this as you like, it’s just a guide to help you get creative with your ideas.

To get started, simply take a look at the document entitled Get creative – Scenario 1

Oracy

In order to improve your child(ren)’s speaking and listening skills at home, we will be posting weekly guidance, games and discussion points. These are intended to be fun as well as purposeful and, given that we are spending so much more time in the family environment, we hope that you will be able to complete some of them. As with any of our home learning materials, we would encourage you to share pictures or feedback on how these activities have gone.
